Director

Richard Viktorov (1929-1983) was a Russian-Soviet director known for his popular science fiction titles of the Brezhnev era. Born on the Black Sea, he moved to Ukraine during the war and eventually studied at Lviv University, before working first at the Odesa and Belarus Film Studios. After moving to the prestigious Gorky studio, which catered for adolescents and younger audiences, he made a name for himself with a succession of science fiction films: his two-part odyssey Moscow-Cassiopeia (1974) and Adolescents in the Universe (1975) and the cult hit Per Aspera Ad Astra (1981), an adaptation from the hugely popular sci-fi author Kir Bulychyov. Viktorov died shortly after working on the satirical sci fi Comet (1983).
