Rolands Kalniņš (1922-2022) was a Latvian screenwriter and director. In the years following the Second World War, Kalniņš began his career at the state-run Riga Film Studio, quickly progressing from an assistant to a director in his own right. instantly from an assistant director to a second director. Several of his most beloved films, including I Remember Everything, Richard and Four White Shirts (1967) were pulled from screens after a limited release and only widely screened during perestroika. In 2005 he received an Award for Life Contribution from the Latvian National Film Festival.
