Yuri Bykov

Yuri Bykov is a Russian filmmaker and scriptwriter born in a trailer in the Ryazan region, a few hours’ drive from Moscow. His mother worked at a large-panel housing construction, while his stepfather was a crane operator. Bykov’s filmmaking is rooted in his provincial Russian background as he relentlessly portrays the gloomy reality of people’s everyday lives. Bykov is most known for his internationally renowned films To Live (2010), The Major (2013) and The Fool (2014).
