Gleb Panfilov

Gleb Panfilov (1934) is a director of great scope and vision. Predominantly known for historical adaptations, in 1967 he was awarded the coveted Golden Lion for his debut film, No Path Through Fire. A recent project was a historical television series about the Romanovs. Panfilov grew up in Yekaterinburg, and as a child he snuck inside the famous Ipatiev house – site of the execution of the Romanovs by the Bolsheviks in 1918 – and saw a red handprint on the wall. He cites this moment as the beginning of his desire to be a filmmaker.
