Director

Born in 1926 in Kutaisi, Chkheidze studied at the Tbilisi Theatre Institute. At the beginning of his career he collaborated with Tengiz Abuladze on several documentary films. In 1956, he released Magdana’s Donkey, which was heralded as the start of a new wave in Georgian cinema and won the Prix du film de fiction at that year’s Cannes Film Festival.
