Angelina Nikonova

Angelina Nikonova was born in 1976 in Rostov-on-Don. The prominent Russian director graduated from the New York School of Visual Arts. In 2011 Nikonova and co-writer and star Olga Dykhovichnaya shot Twilight Portrait, her first feature film. For the film, Nikonova served as a director, scriptwriter, producer, location manager, casting director, make-up artists, and art director. Nikonova’s work has caused controversy among Russian film critics although the film did exceptionally well at international film festivals. As Nikonova herself has noted: “Women as film directors in Russia are rarely trusted.”
