Dmitry Astrakhan, born 1957 in Leningrad, is a longstanding theatre and film director. His peripatetic career saw him study physics and classical wrestling and serve in the Soviet navy, before beginning his career in a succession of Soviet theatre companies. Since 1991, he has directed 29 films and acted in many others, including early hits You Are My Only Love (1993) and Everything Will Be Fine! (1995). He won a Nika award in 2011.
