Henrik Malyan (1925-1988) was one of Armenfilm’s leading directors and a former People’s Artist of the USSR, which he was awarded in 1982. He grew up a keen chess player and his entry to film was through set design. He is best known for Nahapeet (1977), which is regarded as one of the most important films to examine the Armenian Genocide and screened in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes
