Salomé Jashi

Director

Salomé Jashi is a documentary filmmaker and producer from Georgia. She studied in Tbilisi and London. Stylistically, her films are defined by their minimalism, quasi-ethnographic approach to what she calls “micro environments”, and their quietly political undertones. Her debut film, Bakhmaro was produced for television in 2011. Her feature The Dazzling Light of Sunset (2016) was awarded the Main Prize at Visions du Réel’s Regard Neuf Competition. Her controversial but celebrated documentary Taming the Garden (2021) premiered in Sundance Film Festival’s World Cinema Documentary Competition and at the Berlinale Forum, and was nominated for the European Film Awards.
