Valeria Gai Germanika started directing at age nineteen. Her early documentaries Girls and Birthday of the Infanta were both screened at Kinotavr. In early 2010, Channel One aired Gai Germanika’s highly-controversial TV-series School, a coming of age portrayal of teenhood in a Moscow school. It caused many heated debates due to the uncensored portrayal of alcohol and drug use. Gai Germanika’s most acclaimed films include Everybody Dies But Me (2008) and Yes and Yes (2013).
