Valeriya Gai Germanika started directing at age nineteen. Her early documentaries the Girls and the Birthday of the Infanta were both screened at Kinotavr. In early 2010, Channel One aired Gai Germanika’s highly-controversial TV-series ‘School’, a coming of age portrayal of teenhood in a Moscow school. It caused many heated debates due to the uncensored portrayal of alcohol and drug use. Gai Germanika’s most acclaimed films include Everybody Dies But Me (2008) and Yes and Yes (2013).
