Azerbaijani auteur Hilal Baydarov draws on the lessons of his mentor Béla Tarr for this existential road movie. Unfolding against the alternately desolate and stunning landscapes of the autumnal Caucasian countryside, the film follows Davud, a young man seemingly stalked by violent misadventure. On the run from gangsters on his rickety scooter, Davud encounters a series of traumatised women as the borders between reality and dreamworld start to blur. The result is an elliptical and haunting parable that recalls the arthouse bonafides of Tarr, Abbas Kiarostami, and Andrei Tarkovsky.
