Set in the outskirts of Moscow in 1997, The Bull tells the story of Anton, a local gang leader, and his relationship with his friends, adversaries, widowed mother Svetlana, younger siblings Misha and Anya, and Tanya, a young hairdresser desperate to find her way out of Russia. Through these characters, their conflicts, gang wars, and the unstable environment in which they live, overshadowed by the corrupt police, Akopov explores the ‘wild decade’ of Russia’s 1990s.
