The Republic of Latvia is one of Baltic states in Northern Europe. The country shares its borders with Estonia, Russia, Belarus and Lithuania and has a 496 kilometre sea coast to the Baltic Sea. It’s capital, Riga, was the birthplace of the legendary early Soviet film director Sergey Eisenstein. Latvian cinema is mostly characterised by the documentary genre, and while the industry is comparatively small, the last few years have shown its immense promise, with an increasing number of productions annually.
