Autumn Marathon is a quintessential Russian comedy; so, of course, it is a sad comedy. Set against the solemn backdrop of an impassive Leningrad, it is the inevitability of Andrey, the hero’s fate, that makes you chuckle. Andrey is a literary translator, who unable to choose between his wife and his mistress, or indeed decide anything that life throws at him, jogs the city, caught between its bridges.
