Roman Balayan

Roman Balayan was born in 1941 in a small village in Nagorno-Karabakh, a region in the South Caucasus. Balayan is known today as a Ukrainian-Armenian director, screenwriter and producer. He graduated by the Ivan Karpenko-Kary Institute of Theatre Arts in Kyiv, and lived and worked in Ukraine – including as a student of Sergei Parajanov. He was nominated and won several international prizes. His most prominent works include the 1986 film Guard Me, My Talisman, the 1977 film Lone Wolf and the 2008 film Birds of Paradise.
