Roman Balayan born in 1941 in a small village in Nagorno-Karabakh, a region in South Caucasus. Balayan is a Ukrainian-Armenian film director, screenwriter and producer. Graduated by the Ivan Karpenko-Kary Institute of Theater Arts in Kiev, he lived and worked in Ukraine and was a student of Sergei Parajanov. He was nominated and won several international prizes. His most prominent works include the 1986 film ‘Guard Me, My Talisman’, the 1977 film ‘Lone Wolf’ and the 2008 film ‘Birds of Paradise’.
