The multi-award-winning debut feature from Ana Urushadze, Scary Mother plumbs the depths of creative obsession with unnerving and darkly comic results. Manana (Nato Murvanidze) is a middle-aged Tbilisi mother who gives in to her passion for writing after years of repression. Urged on by her obsessive confidante Nukri (Ramaz Ioseliani), Manana’s storytelling pushes her towards a psychosexual awakening that threatens to tear her family apart. Alternately reserved and frantic, Urushadze’s exploration of female creativity is a subversively celebratory treat.
